Sam Evans is a Senior Environmental Scientist at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). A natural resource economist by training, his work focuses on California’s timber and forest product markets, the impacts of wildfire on the state’s economy, and the costs and benefits of forest sector policies.

Prior to joining CAL FIRE, he spent 10 years in academic positions and served as a senior scientist in the forest carbon removal industry. Sam holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Colorado State University.
